Dr. Raven Baxter speaks to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Campbell Brown about Science Communication

Today, I'm thrilled to announce my participation in the launch of Facebook's new platform, Bulletin. As a molecular biologist and science communicator, this is a fantastic opportunity to share my passion for science with a much broader audience, and on a platform where it is desperately needed.

The presence of scientists on Facebook's platform, particularly Bulletin, is essential for several reasons. It democratizes science, breaking down the barriers that often make scientific knowledge seem inaccessible to the general public. Scientists like myself can articulate complex scientific concepts in a digestible manner, fostering a greater understanding and appreciation for science among a wider audience. Facebook's intentional support of expert science communicators is a commendable step. This initiative not only brings forth fresh perspectives, but (in my opinion) also enriches the quality of thought and conversation on the platform.

I was invited by Facebook to participate in the launch announcement, made via Facebook audio room. In the conversation was Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Head of News Partnerships Campbell Brown. You can listen to our conversation here:

Bulletin brings a chance for me to share my musings, discoveries, and insights on the fascinating crossroads of science and culture, a topic very dear to me. That's why I'm super excited to introduce my awesome Bulletin newsletter, drumroll please... "Science and the Culture"! Join the fun and let's explore together! We'll delve into the hot topics on science and society, their intersections, and their influence on global culture and vice versa. It will cover a variety of topics, for example, things happening in genetics research that is shaping societies to the cultural implications of climate change. I aim to demystify the often complex world of science and make it accessible and exciting for everyone.

Scientists on Bulletin can bridge the often-wide gap between scientific research and its practical application, demonstrating how scientific findings can impact daily life and society at large. They can tackle pertinent topics, such as climate change and genetics, in an engaging and relatable context, thereby encouraging more informed discussions and decisions.

My hope is also that my presence can inspire the younger generation to pursue careers in STEM fields, by showcasing the exciting and impactful nature of scientific work. I believe that the presence of science communicators on Facebook, particularly on their Bulletin platform, can play a pivotal role in making science more accessible, applicable, and appealing.

So, if you're curious about the world of science and its influence on our culture, I invite you to subscribe to my Bulletin newsletter. Thanks to Facebook for reaching out and recognizing me as a trusted source for timely and accurate science news, research findings, as well as thoughtful insights on the latest scientific developments that are shaping our world today.
