Information you give us
You can browse this site without giving us any personal information. There are no accounts or logins. We collect personal information only when you send it to us through one of these:
- The feedback form asks for your contact details, your comments, and whether we may share them publicly with your name.
- The podcast guest form is for guests of The Science of Life. It asks for your contact details, title and organization, a short bio and topics, an optional headshot, the recording time you pick, and your signature on the Guest Release.
- The newsletter signup asks for your email address and sends it straight to Substack, which runs the newsletter.
- Email. If you write to contact@thesciencemaven.com, we receive whatever you include.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, this site is served by a hosting company that keeps standard server logs, including your IP address, browser type and the pages you request. We also use Vercel Web Analytics to count visits. It shows us totals, such as which pages are read and which countries visits come from. It does not use cookies and does not follow you to other websites.
How we use information
- To reply to your message or feedback.
- To schedule, record, produce and promote podcast episodes, as described in the Guest Release.
- To share feedback publicly, only when you give permission on the form.
- To keep the site running, secure and free of abuse.
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not add you to any mailing list unless you sign up for the newsletter yourself.
Who we share it with
We share information only with the companies that help us run the site, and only as needed for that work:
- Google Workspace delivers form messages by email to our inbox and holds that inbox.
- Vercel hosts the site and provides its analytics.
- Substack runs the newsletter.
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of The Science Maven LLC or others.
Videos, music and social posts
Some pages show videos from YouTube, music and podcasts from Spotify, and posts from Instagram. When that content loads or plays, those companies may collect information such as your IP address and may set their own cookies. Their privacy policies apply. The same is true when you follow a link to another site, such as our social media pages or Apple Podcasts.
Cookies
This site does not set cookies for advertising or tracking. Cookies may come from the outside services described above when you use their content.
How long we keep it
Form messages are kept in our email for as long as they are useful for the conversation and our business records. Podcast guest information is kept with the records for that episode.
Your choices
You can ask for a copy of the information you sent us, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. You can also take back permission to share your feedback. Email contact@thesciencemaven.com and we will take care of it. To stop the newsletter, use the unsubscribe link in any issue.
Children
This site is for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we will delete it.
Security
We use reputable service providers and limit who can see what you send. No website or email system is perfectly secure, so please do not send sensitive information, such as financial or health details, through the site's forms.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version on this page and update the date at the top.
