Raven Baxter joined the Buffalo State Alumni Association Board of Directors as a member at large in October 2020. By May 2021, the association's public board page listed her as "Raven Baxter, '14, '17."

She took the seat in a pandemic fall. In June 2020, Buffalo State released plans for the semester that mixed in-person, hybrid and online classes. Masks were required on campus when distancing was not possible, and classes moved online after Thanksgiving.

Buffalo State graduates have organized to stay connected to the college since at least 1937, when the Alumni Association incorporated. In 2018 the college reported more than 100,000 living alumni. Every one of them belongs. "If you are a Buffalo State graduate, then you're a member of the Buffalo State Alumni Association," the association says on its website.

"The Buffalo State Alumni Association celebrates and builds traditions, fostering lifelong relationships by engaging alumni, students, parents, and friends who support Buffalo State," according to its About page. Its home is the Jacqueline Vito LoRusso Alumni and Visitor Center, which opened in summer 2018.

The association runs the college's alumni awards. The Distinguished Alumnus Award dates to 1965 and has honored more than 80 graduates. The Senior Service Award began in 2003. Winners of the Young Alumnus Achievement Award, created in 2002, come from nominees put forward by a selection committee "comprised of alumni, faculty, and board members," the association says.

Baxter received that award herself in 2021. Buffalo State marked it with a reception at the LoRusso Center on July 30 of that year.

Her years on the board have spanned a period of change for the college. On Sept. 17, 2021, President Katherine Conway-Turner opened Buffalo State's 150th anniversary year. In fall 2022, alumni award honorees were recognized at the LoRusso Center, first during Homecoming. They included a 2020 Distinguished Alumnus honored late because of the pandemic. In 2023 the college became a university, and Baxter gave the address at its 151st Commencement that May.

Baxter earned her B.A. in biological sciences at Buffalo State in 2014 and her M.A. in 2017. When she joined the board, she was a doctoral candidate at the University at Buffalo, studying science communication. She continues to serve on the board.

The association's 2021 board list is preserved by the Internet Archive, and its mission and leadership are on its website.
